What Is Cosmetic Dental Bonding?
Tooth Bonding in cosmetic dentistry is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure where a strong, tooth colored composite material is bonded artistically to the natural teeth for restoring chipped portions, closing gaps between the teeth (diastema), correcting irregularities in tooth surfaces, and covering difficult to treat tooth stains. At Pacific Highway Dental of Kent, WA, Dr. Meenakshi Tomar, DDS (over 30 years of experience) and Dr. Sweetu Patel, DMD provide you with pain-free and one-time visit tooth beautification process without ever drilling and poking your teeth.
Cosmetic dental bonding, also known as direct composite bonding or composite veneers, is one of the most conservative and affordable treatments offered by contemporary cosmetic dentistry. Unlike porcelain veneers and crowns, which require removing some of your natural tooth tissue to make room for the treatment, composite bonding helps you enhance your smile without any invasive procedure.
Dr. Tomar and Dr. Patel at Pacific Highway Dental employ nano-hybrid ceramic composites which mimic the light reflection of the natural dental enamel. The resin is shaped into an anatomically correct pattern right on your teeth, bonded to the tooth surface, and hardened using blue LED wand, restoring your smile in 30-60 minutes per tooth.

Pacific Highway Dental’s 5-Step Creative Merging Method
Smiling Analysis And Shade Selection
Your smile dynamics, symmetry of your face, and aesthetic desires are assessed by Dr. Tomar or Dr. Patel. Your surrounding teeth are matched using daylight natural dental shades and selecting different opacity shades for composite resin.
Gentle Tooth Surface Conditioning
Tooth surface is slightly cleansed and a special safe conditioning liquid is applied for 15 seconds to create micro textures on the surface and bond the liquid with great force. No drills are needed here.
Multi-Layered Artistic Resin Sculpting
The putty-like composite resin is layered by Dr. Tomar and Dr. Patel, carefully sculpting the naturally ridged, curved and light-refractive surfaces of your tooth.
Intense LED Light Curing
An intense blue LED curing light is applied to each layer of the sculpted resin for 20 to 40 seconds per layer. Instantly, the restoration will be hard enough to withstand natural biting force.
Occlusal Bite Evaluation and High Glisten Diamond Polishing
Your bite will be evaluated using articulation paper to ensure perfect chewing force distribution. The restoration will be polished with multi-grit diamond abrasives until it has a dazzling, natural enamel polish.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do cosmetic dental bonds last?
With proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups from Pacific Highway Dental, the bond will last from 5 to 8+ years. Small chips or wear can be retouched or buffed out easily within minutes.
Is there pain in the process of dental bonding?
There is no pain involved in cosmetic bonding whatsoever because composite resin is placed on the external surface of your tooth enamel, where there are no nerve endings. Thus, numbing is rarely required.
Can teeth that were bonded be whitened in the future?
The composite resin doesn’t react to the chemicals used for teeth whitening. It is advised to consider whitening first and match the color of the composite resin to the color of your teeth afterwards.
Does dental bonding get stained just as real teeth do?
Nano hybrid resins have very low staining potential. Though, drinking large amounts of coffee, black tea, or smoking can stain the bonding material on the surface of the tooth slightly. Regular cleaning and polishing by the dentist once every 6 months will keep the composite intact.
How does composite bonding differ from porcelain veneers?
Bonding can be done within one session, is completely non-invasive, is not irreversible, and is cheaper (300-600 per tooth). Porcelain veneers require two-three appointments, involve shaving your enamel slightly, and are milled in the lab for better results and a longer life of up to 10-15+ years.
